Emergency Medical Technician

Initial Certification

Personnel qualify for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician by meeting the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete an approved Emergency Medical Technician one hundred fifty (150) hour course.
  • Create a CIS account.
  • Submit an online application and certification fee.
  • Complete a background check.
  • Submit a copy of your CPR card.
  • Successfully complete the written and practical examination of either National Registry or the State Initial Examination.

Recertification

  • Successfully complete an approved Emergency Medical Technician twenty-four  (24) hour course.
  • Submit a copy of your CPR card.
  • Submit an online application and recertification fee.
  • Complete a background check, if you have not done so in the past.
  • Successfully complete Hazmat Awareness training meeting OSHA 1910.120 or higher standards on a yearly basis.*
  • Complete the Emergency Medical Technician evaluation along with the skills evaluation.

 

* CLARIFICATION: Applications with MCI/HazMat hours noted for 2013 will be processed (individuals who were mid-recert cycle when the change was made), however, in accordance with the policy effective January 2014 recertifications beginning 2014 will NOT.
